The Celluloid Salon series is a audio-visual experience, pairing obscure silent film shorts with soundtracks curated music by Dj’s spinning live.

Cultural provocateur Chris Weingarten, of 1000TimesYes fame will heat up the soundtrack on three sensational short films to kick off this Drambuie-sponsored series.

The visual program, selected by Cinema 16 founder Molly Surno, includes:

  • Dream of a Rarebit Fiend (Edwin S Porter): A forerunner of the surrealist movement, this technical and cinematic marvel is the earliest example of non-linear cinematographic storytelling and is a feast of gluttonous grotesquery.
  • Coney Island USA (Valentine Sherry): You can almost smell the salt air, cotton candy and suntan lotion in this 1952 film which captures the garishness, cacophony and movement of Brooklyn’s storied playground.
  • NY NY (Francis Thompson): In this collection of scenes, New York City is recorded through special kaleidoscopic lenses.
